So I took an alternate route home today, to avoid driving on the highway. It still took me an hour, but it reminded me what a fabulous city Chicago is. I drove through skokie and all these other places I'd pretty much never been before, and it kind of re-opened my eyes to how much of the city I have yet to see.
Got my first paycheck in, and now it's time to blow cash and ball out, lease an M3 and wear Lacoste Polos and BAPE shoes.
Or you know, sensibly invest it so I can retire at 35.
I'm thinking I want to get a cat.

Well, "project Nick" continues to roll along.
I had to do like 800$ of repairs to my car. The Poly-V belt and its automatic tensioner had to be replaced. The Poly-V belt is a belt that's driven by the car's engine, and that turns the alternator, the power steering pump, the cooling fan on the radiator, and a lot of other things. Without it, your car is kinda the fucked. The automatic tensioner is just a wheel that the belt goes across that moves to make sure there's always a whole lot of tension on the belt and it isn't loose.
I ended up missing two days of work for the car, when it turns out I didn't have to. My commute continues to be hellish 1 hour slogs to cover 15 road miles. I'm pretty happy with almost everything in my life right now though. My job is working out well and paying nicely, so that I think I can take a trip to las vegas in October to see the first Pride Fighting event on U.S. soil. Which should be a ton of fun.
On the down side, not being around home much at all means my apartment is falling into disrepair and shittiness. Last nights dishes sit unwashed, my dirty clothes pile up, etc etc. Meanwhile my unemployed rooommate watches Dr. Katz all day long on our Media PC.
Yeah, he built a media PC, so we can watch downloaded movies or HD broadcasts on our tv. My favorite thing though is the MAME + ROMS I have. MAME = Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It basically lets that Media PC become any arcade machine that ever existed. So I can play any old game I ever wanted, which is fun. And a lot cheaper than blowing 54950943599045 quarters to beat one of those insane "bullet hell" shooter plane games. I even have a USB controller that has a fan in it to keep my palms from sweating. Nerd heaven.
It's a good thing I have that though, because I barely have any friends. I'm in touch with almost no-one from college anymore, which is pretty shitty.
As an aside, I heartily recommend singing along to music in your car when you drive. I'm pretty sure it prolongs life.
